Cloudburst is an online service that provides printable Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) to real estate appraisers and developers. BrowserMedia created a custom Java software application to allow users to generate flood maps based on address, panel number, or by latitude and longitude. The system generates thumbnail views of the selected area with the ability to zoom in and out, as well as pan vertically and horizontally. Printable PDF documents are generated dynamically from the thumbnails. Users of the system can purchase credits on a per click basis or a subscription basis, through a secure ecommerce system. The system is a faster, paper-less alternative to a process that previously took days.
