Portland, OR, USA - 07/8/04 - There's just something about a boulangerie that makes us tip our heads back a bit and breathe deep; few things in life are as glorious and comforting as the smell of fresh baked bread. Perhaps it's the flagstone floor or the weather-beaten wood beams or possibly the husky brick oven in the corner that makes St. Honoré Boulangerie so charming. Maybe the family table made for fourteen does it. Could even be the outside seating. KL Design spared no expense to accommodate St. Honoré's owner, Dominique Geulin, while creating a splendid atmosphere for patrons to marvel at the delicate pastries and mighty breads. The open kitchen encourages viewing the bakers, and even on cloudy Portland days the skylights above them allow for a show. St. Honore's rotating menu showcases Dominique's creativity and vision by including sandwiches stuffed with a mélange of fresh meats and cheeses; delightful chocolate and fruit pastries; and the breads... ohh, the breads. Again, there's just something about a boulangerie. "The project was as much fun to research as it was to design for. Sifting through old photographs of old French bakeries was very interesting. We tried to combine the aesthetics of the old with the convenience of the modern bakeries." Says owner of KL Design Group - Kyle Lynch. "We not only completed the interior design but also developed the logo, bread bags, window painting and printed menu as well."
